WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I GO TO COURT?
A number of options exist to resolve a criminal defense charge. These options include but are not limited to:
PLEA BARGAINS During negotiations with the prosecutor some charges may be dismissed or reduced to lesser charges.
JURY TRIAL Six members or the community will be selected to decide your guilt or innocence. While most cases do not go to trial, this is a crucial step in the legal process and it is important to have an attorney with criminal trial experience in the event your case reaches that point.
INTERVENTION / DIVERSION PROGRAMS Prosecution of your case may be suspended until the prescribed program has been completed, resulting in the charges being dismissed.
PLEA IN ABSENTIA A written plea submitted by your attorney which can often resolve your case without you having to personally appear in court.
WITHHOLDING ADJUDICATION A formal conviction can sometimes be avoided from appearing on your record during negotiations with the prosecutor.
SEALING CRIMINAL RECORDS When your criminal record is sealed, information about the case is not available to the public.
An investigation of your arrest and a review of the evidence by an experienced criminal defense attorney may reveal defenses not immediately apparent.
