Criminal defense for those charged with sexual assault

On Behalf of | Dec 29, 2017 | Domestic Violence, Firm News |

A Florida Uber driver has been charged with sexual assault after taking a drunken, unconscious passenger to a hotel room and attempting to have sex with her.

The female passenger told law enforcement that she requested an Uber ride to her hotel. She stated that when she got into the vehicle she felt fine, but then suddenly lost consciousness. The Uber driver advised law enforcement that the passenger asked him to pull over because she felt like she was going to be sick. He claimed that she then pulled up her dress at which time he noticed she was not wearing any underwear, and he thought that meant she wanted to have sex.

He then drove her to her hotel, took her to the room, undressed, and climbed on top of her. He claims that it was at that point he decided to stop because he is married. The passenger stated that when she woke up, the driver told her she was dreaming.

Sexual assault is a very serious charge in Florida that requires experienced, competent criminal defense representation. It is considered, in its lowest terms, a second degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Choosing an attorney to assist in defending such a charge could mean the difference in a lengthy prison sentence, or charges being dropped for the accused. For those in such situations, proper guidance can help make the reality of the circumstances clearer, removing some of the stress involved. Although being charged with such crimes is extremely serious, everyone has a right to proper representation.
